Imagine Tom Waits and Amy Millan shouting whiskey-soaked lullabies, while backed by the members of Crazy Horse and you’d have a good start to imagine the balance between Americana and dance-floor-filling indie rock of July Talk.
In 2013, they toured alongside Billy Talent, Matt Mays, Arkells, Sam Roberts and Besnard Lakes, Weezer, Matthew Good Band or Tegan and Sara. In the summer of 2013, they began working on a studio album called July Talk. In 2014 July Talk was nominated forBreakthrough Group of the Year at the 2014 Juno Awards in Canada.
Toronto indie act July Talk’s debut is notable for one thing: singer-guitarist Peter Dremainis’ steel wool yelps dancing along with Leah Fay’s wispy bubble gum voice. The combination is enough to turn heads — like Cookie Monster gorging on cotton candy — and the blues-rock oriented outfit has been garnering rave reviews for its intense concerts.
