Simon Green’s music career has started in Brighton, where he moved at young age. He has been performing under the stage name Bonobo since 2000, when his debut album Animal Magic was released. With this album, completely self-produced and self-instrumented, he became one of the new downtempo pioneers. Then he signed up with british independent label Ninja Tune and in 2003 released his second album Dial ‚M‘ for Monkey, significantly influenced by jazz. Three years later his third album Days To Come came out, featuring vocals by Bajka and Fink, which gave his music whole new dimension. With social media boom, such as Myspace, his fan community had grown and there was a huge demand for his music outside UK, mostly in USA. So he began touring bigger and bigger venues there, then gradually building a live band and playing headline shows. On his fourth album Back Sands, he went even further with his experimenting and enriched his sound with gamelan, afrobeat and middle eastern music influences. Thanks to such distinctive piece of work he started touring more, which even extended with releasing his fifth album The North Bordersin 2013. On The North Borders Tour he played 175 shows in 30 countries across 3 continents over 18 months. A gigantic show in London’s Alexandra Palace marked the climax of this tour, which was recorded on The North Borders Tour. – Live.album. Green’s latest album Migration was released in January 2017 and there is visible return to his ambient and downtempo roots, featuring a series of collaborations with Nick Murphy (Chet Faker), Rhye and Hundred Waters. The album received very positive reviews. Pitchfork called it the most sophisticated effort of Bonobo’s career. The Migration album and the track Bambro Koyo Ganda have been nominated for the 60th Annual Grammy Awards for Best Dance/Electronic Album and Best Dance Recording. The theme of the record is eruditely put by Bonobo as “the study of people and spaces“ and was inspired by live events that bring album’s emotional depths and conceptual themes of change and flux.
