Jungle. The band that everyone talks about although the members themselves don’t disclose much. Josh and Tom, two lead singers and longtime friends, perform simply under “J” and “T”. In their idiosyncratic videos, they are represented by a group of dancers, a roller-skating duo or a little girl. After a year of existence, the band expanded into a 7-piece collective and released their eponymous debut album full of incredibly cool soul and funk. Last year, British Jungle kicked off as one of the hottest bands in the UK when they placed on the BBC’s prestigious “Sound Of” list. Jungle for the very first time in Czech Republic – on the 23rd of March in Lucerna Music Bar in Prague.
It’s a tough job to define the music of these guys. The music they produce is so variable – well what do you expect, there are 7 people in the band. The most frequent definition you’ll hear is „midtempo 70s style funk“ intermixed with “tropical percussion, wildlife noises, falsetto yelps, psychedelic washes and badoinking bass” – altogether it’s modern neosoul that will get under your skin and have you shuffle your feet leaving a big wide grin on your face. Tom McFarland and Josh Lloyd-Watson – those are the names behind Jungle. Two childhood friends from Shepherd’s Bush put together an amazing group of talented musicians and decided to translate their music into stunning and explosive live performance. Now wonder the DIY magazine called Jungle „A spectacular live band“. The band proved them right at iTunes Festival in London, Glastonbury Festival and during live performances on Jimmy Kimmel Show Live! and during live sessions for BBC Radio 1, 2 and 6.
Welcome to the jungle! That’s what you can tell yourself when you come to Lucerna Music Bar in Prague on 23/3/15. But one thing remains certain. There’s no danger awaiting you in this kind of jungle, more like the opposite.
